Restoration & inscriptions

Caring for the stones your family raised

Weather, time and settling ground take their toll on every memorial. We clean, repair, re-erect and re-letter stones across Glasgow, often ones our own family first cut.

A recent restoration

From overgrown to as good as new

This marble memorial had weathered to grey under years of moss and overgrowth. We cleaned and restored the stone and its statue, re-cut the original lettering, and added a new inscription alongside the old.

Why families come to us

We may have made it in the first place

After nearly a century in the trade, a remarkable number of the memorials in Glasgow's cemeteries passed through Lipton hands. When you bring us a family stone, there's every chance we hold its story, and we treat every stone, whoever made it, as if we did.

We'll always tell you honestly what a stone needs, and just as honestly when it needs nothing at all.

Service & maintenance

Looked after, year after year

If visiting the grave often is difficult, or you'd simply like to know the stone is being cared for, talk to us about a service and maintenance contract. We check the memorial is standing safely, clean it with the right method for the stone, and let you know if anything needs attention before a council inspection does.

We can also arrange insurance for a memorial, should you wish, so accidental damage or vandalism is covered.

Common questions

Can you add a name to a stone you didn't make?

Yes. We match the existing lettering style and finish as closely as the stone allows, and we'll advise honestly if a stone isn't sound enough to letter before other work is done.

Do I need the cemetery's permission?

Most work on a memorial needs a council permit, and only the lair holder can authorise it. We prepare the paperwork and handle the application as part of the job.

Do you offer maintenance contracts?

Yes. A service and maintenance contract means the memorial is checked, cleaned and kept safe over the years. We can also arrange insurance for the memorial if you wish.

My family's stone is leaning, is it urgent?

Councils test memorials for stability and may lay flat any stone they judge unsafe. If a stone is leaning it's worth acting before that happens, we can assess it and quote for re-fixing on a proper foundation.
